Dr Gavin Collins is a microbiologist and environmental biotechnologist at NUI Galway, where he explores the microbial world for useful species, investigating the use of microorganisms in helpful technologies such as water and wastewater treatment, and in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. He also works on sustainable sanitation and antimicrobial resistance in developing countries. Gavin is a graduate of NUI Galway (BSc and PhD in Microbiology) and has worked in Germany, the US and the UK.

In his talk, Gavin will identify the five, core skills of a scientist and explore why those skills are the key to your career in a huge diversity of areas.
